TIAA-CREF is seeking and Operations Manager for our new Life Insurance / Annuities business in Charlotte, NC. The right individual will be responsible for ensuring successful processing of insurance applications from the time that they are received through the point at which the policy is issued. Because the successful and timely processing of applications directly impacts company revenue, this is a highly visible position. This position will require a significant amount of relationship management responsibility, as this individual will interact with a wide variety of internal and external parties. The ideal candidate should enjoy working in a face-paced environment and be adept at maintaining and solidifying important business relationships. The position is responsible for managing and leading one or more functions associated with the pre issue (new business) contract administration for multiple individual life insurance and after-tax (non qualified) annuity plan types.
Responsibilities:
- Provide oversight to the quality assurance and replacement adherence functions within new business/underwriting
- Oversee the development, production and distribution of management and executive metrics for the functions supported.
- Support all external and internal audits and exams of the functions supported
- Establish and manage quality assurance and control programs
- Manage staff that performs functions within new business quality assurance and replacement processing (hiring, performance management, staff training and development, etc)
- Make decisions on complex cases and situates associated with the functions supported
- Ensure that the functions supported, areas managed, and personnel managed adhere to all corporate policies and procedures.
- Develop the proper mechanisms to effectively track and monitor adherence to quality standards
- Liaison with all business units as required to support administration for functions supported (compliance, law, treasury, technology, finance, reinsurance, sales, management, etc).
- Manage customer complaint procedures
- Manage distribution of work items and execution of transactions in a timely and accurate fashion
- Ensure that operations are managed in accordance with all applicable contract servicing related SEC, state insurance, IRS and FINRA regulations
- Promotes the adoption of a controls and compliance culture through training and consulting activities. Requires excellent knowledge of business unit operations and specific processes and processing standards within a financial services organization and associated company policy requirements and rules.
Qualifications Requirements:
- 10+ years of progressive life insurance and after-tax annuity experience, with an in depth knowledge of regulatory requirements.
- Strong interpersonal, management and leadership skills demonstrated by 5+ years of management experience.
- Industry designations preferred but not required
- Ability to work in a multi product/multi platform environment
- Solid writing, communication and presentation skills are essential
- Requires a working knowledge of TC Life insurance products
- Will require strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence at all levels in the organization.
- Interact with potential clients/participants but will work closely with several internal and external customers including the wholesalers, phone center agents, case managers, and exam vendors.
