Pharmacy Technician II
Purpose of the Job: Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Supervisor, assumes responsibility for supporting the Pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions, maintenance of drug inventory and cash control systems. Provides support of the pharmacist in the IV admixture service when needed. Maintains appropriate storage and control of clinic medication stocks. Coordinates departmental quality assurance and other customer-focused services with supervisory staff. Interacts with Internal and External Communities. Functions as effective, self-directed Health Care Team member with equally shared responsibility and/or accountability towards reaching set goals/targets and strategic outcomes.
This position also has compliance accountability and/or responsibility for Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures, the Principles of Responsibility, accreditation standards (if applicable), and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as, proper use of Kaiser Permanente Personal Computer (PC) and applications.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Greets members in a professionally courteous and caring member. Answers routing inquiries regarding health plan coverage, prices and pharmacy services using a working knowledge of member's eligibility for prescription benefits.
2. Receives requests from patients for new and refill prescriptions and over the counter medications and supplies, assures that the necessary patient information is complete and verifies eligibility status of the member. Accurately enters all new and refill prescriptions requests into the computer system. Processes VRU (Voice Response Unit), in-basket, and KP online prescriptions.
3. Procures the correct drug, counts dose accurately and attaches the label to a completed prescription prior to the final check by a pharmacist.
4. Uses discretion and good judgment in dealing with questions and problems of members, being familiar with standards of ethics governing pharmacy practice (including pharmacy state laws). Protects the confidentiality of patient's medical and drug profile from other members and personnel.
5. Performs other related duties as directed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS -Relevant Years of Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Successful completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program or US Military program highly desirable. One year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy student matriculating in an accredited school of pharmacy after the fast professional year or equivalent.
License, Certification and/or Designation:
Compliance with all state board of pharmacy rules and licensing requirements where applicable.
Active CPHT certification required. (Pharmacy students are exempted from the CPhT requirement where applicable).
Other Qualifications
Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
