Southeast Georgia Health System Job Description Job Title: Physician - Internal Medicine Department: Southeast Georgia Physician Associates Job Code: 1098 Wage/Hour Status: Grade: P01 Exempt X Nonexempt Summary: (Summarize primary purpose of job function) Provides care to adolescent and adult patients. Treats patients for the presenting illnesses, performs focused and complete physicals, makes appropriate referrals for further diagnosis and treatment, orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and prescribes pharmacological agents and treatments. Ensures that appropriate patients are treated and that more severely injured/ill patients are promptly referred to the hospital. Utilizes patient care supplies/equipment in a fiscally responsible manner. Exhibits positive interpersonal skills. Reports To: Practice Manager, Assistant Vice President Titles Supervised: Medical Support Assistant Essential Responsibilities: 1. Provides care to patients presenting for treatment. 2. Performs focused and complete physicals as health needs and patient/employer request indicate. 3. Directs patient care by performing a patient assessment, review of systems and physical examination. Utilizes the data obtained to develop a plan of care to include patient and family education, proper referrals, discharge planning and evaluating the effectiveness of care. This is accomplished in conjunction with the health care team and is supported by the appropriate documentation for compliance with regulatory standards. 4. Prescribes appropriate pharmacological agents and treatments; Orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests. Signs off on all final x-ray interpretations and laboratory results. 5. Collaborates with other health care providers as the patient health needs dictate, consults and reviews cases with physicians and other health care providers; Refers patients to other physicians/specialist for continued care as the patients needs indicate. 6. Reviews patient records and completes peer review and other chart reviews as requested. 7. Utilizes appropriate E and M coding guidelines for billing. Participates in the SGHS compliance program. Collaborates with the billers to follow up on denials in an effort to achieve appropriate reimbursement for services provided. Minimum Qualifications: Education Board certified/Board eligiable Graduate of an accredited Medical College or College of Osteopathic Medicine and completion of an accredited residency training program. Experience Completion of an accredited residency training program. Minimum of two (2) years experience in inpatient/outpatient setting. Licensure Current Medical License for practice in the State of Georgia by Composite Board of Medical Examiners for Georgia. Current Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Justice Department
