The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the professional membership association for over 27,000 oncologists and researchers worldwide, is currently seeking a Media Relations Specialist to round out the team in the department of Communications and Patient Information. This integral, mid-level management position reports to the Assistant Director of Public Affairs and will partner to execute media relations and communication programs, including virtual press events, editorial briefings, multi-media outreach, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Manage ASCO’s general media relations program including triaging incoming calls, facilitating interviews, etc.
- Write news releases, media alerts, talking points, fact sheets, letters to the editor, articles, etc.
- Provide communications support for ASCO’s Quality Division, including strategic communications planning and media outreach on issues related to quality cancer care.
- Serve as communications staff liasion to Cancer Quality Alliance, Health Disparities Advisory Committee, Quality Committee, QOPI Steering Committee, and Cancer Prevention Committee
- Oversee media registration and manage Media HQ database.
- Manage content, organization, design, and functionality of ASCO’s online press center.
- Produce and manage multi-media content including audio, video, social media, electronic media, etc.
- Plan and coordinate editorial briefings and logistics with key media and ASCO leadership.
- Oversee management of department’s communications database.
Bring the following experience to this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Policy, or related experience planning and executing high-visibility media programs and events
- Demonstrated strengths related to managing detailed procedures, multiple priorities, and strict time lines
- Success pitching stories to media professionals to promote programs and policies.
- A flair for developing strong professional relationships at all levels, with ease
- Exemplary writing and editing skills
