Licensing Manager Position

I. PURPOSE OF POSITION
Manage a high volume licensing division that supports and maximizes the authenticity and integrity of the brand, while providing the framework and vision to continually build a stronger service organization facilitating growth within the True Religion brand image among licensing partners.
II. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Planning
¨ Manage a comprehensive financial plan, to include budgeting both expenses and revenues. ¨ Work with Director to implement marketing plans to obtain new licensees. ¨ Monitor the prospect pre-qualifying control system to assure quality and quantity potential. ¨ Create and implement compliance risk management procedures to control product quality and brand marketing. ¨ Bring new Licensees to Director and President –evaluate and screen potential licensees
License Management
¨ Concept- work with TR design and marketing team to create and develop tools to communicate and monitor the Brand vision to licensees in a timely manner to build one cohesive brand image. Work closely with Licensees on initial concepts, and guide them so that product meets Creative Director’s vision for the brand. ¨ Design – work closely with both Licensee designers and TR designers, and document in great detail what product gets approved and what product gets rejected ¨ Sample –follow up with Licensees to make sure all samples in reality are exactly as Creative Director had envisioned ¨ Approvals –ensure all product approvals are documents via photograph and all products have approval forms ¨ Production –ensure all licensed production is as good as previously approved samples ¨ Sales/Distribution –work with all Licensees on Sales strategy, including choosing sales force, enforcing what channel of distribution they can sell to, which trade shows they attend, how and what they spend their marketing dollars on, where they advertise, etc, in order to exceed sales minimums ¨ Establish and implement compliance control system to assure quality control, trademark and copyright assurance. ¨ Facilitate corporate review meetings and licensing meetings to align all licensed products and marketing to build one cohesive brand image consistent with corporate objectives. ¨ Ensure all departments are updated and notified of all changes and modifications. ¨ Maintain and analyze pertinent data with internal departments: finance, marketing design, operations, customer service, distribution, sales and merchandising. ¨ Ensure maintenance and control of all records to support and document licensee agreement terms, conditions and changes.
License Recruitment/Acquisitions
¨ Prepare new category “fact sheets” to fit the market and corporate needs. ¨ Source and develop the most qualified licensee candidates to present to President. ¨ Work with Director to negotiate material business components of license contract, prepare and secure signed summary of terms. ¨ Interact with President and Legal Counsel on development of the license agreement. ¨ Work with retail partners when necessary to secure advance funding for launch.
Business Development/Product Category Analysis
¨ Work closely with retail and licensing partners to identify new business opportunities. Expand and maximize key items, classifications according to market trends. ¨ Plan and facilitate business development meetings and presentations with retailers, when necessary, to build brand support. ¨ Prepare sales and advertising summary comparisons of each licensee to coordinate licensee-advertising efforts and to develop retail Brand support. ¨ Develop working relationship with Retail team; follow up to see what is selling and what is not to aid future sales. ¨ Ensure amendments, renewals and option terms are processed in a timely manner.
Audit Contract Compliance Issues
¨ Continually review and audit Quarterly and Annual Royalty Statements and contract compliance: o Sales performance, variances, incentives and distribution compliance o Sales by Customer reports o Royalty and Advertising Payments o Required Advertising Expenditures o Review Supportive Back-up information for compliance ¨ Prepare and update financial summaries and schedules for Royalty Activities. Ensure all royalty payments and royalty projection scheduling is timely. ¨ Alert Licensee immediately of problems and needed corrections. ¨ Prepare timely status reports (“Royalty Statement Overview”) for open contract compliance issues with financial implications.
Administration and Special Projects
¨ Keep accurate and timely files of all Licensee correspondence. ¨ Prepare and control department budgets. ¨ Maintain division financial files for compliance as required by license agreements. ¨ Projects that arise as business opportunities continue to develop. ¨ Keep all contact summaries updated and accurate.

¨ Specific knowledge and ability to integrate diverse industries and disciplines, i.e. manufacturing, retail, design, marketing, and business law.
B. Decision-Making Authority
¨ Responsible for all legal aspects relating to license contracts.

¨ Reports to the Dept Director.
D. Supervision Exercised
¨ Currently no direct reports, but as the licensing division develops, an administrative assistant and product manager may be added.

IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Experience and Education
¨ BA in Marketing/Business or equivalent ¨ 5+ years licensing experience ¨ 5-10 years merchandising, new business development ¨ Strong planning, merchandising and organizational skills ¨ Knowledge of intellectual property laws and licensing law ¨ Ability to understand and evaluate financial reports and statements ¨ Excellent written and oral communication skills
