Minimum Experience/Education: Requires a graduate degree in the Transportation, Engineering, Economics, Social Sciences, Public Administration or related field and a minimum of five years experience in the field of bicycle and pedestrian transportation.
Departmental Required Skills: Seeking a practitioner with national recognition, and a working knowledge of, and proven accomplishments in planning and implementing bicycle and pedestrian transportation programs and facilities. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Essential Job Duties: Essentials duties include, but are not limited to: managing the bicycle and pedestrian program; conducting, managing, and administering sponsored project work involving technical assistance, training, and research; evolving business opportunities/grant proposals to obtain funding; and supervision of employees within the program. Project work may involve conducting surveys, collecting and analyzing data, developing new program initiatives, reviewing federal and state policies, directing and conducting long-term and short-term studies, seeking and administering grants, facilities, developing bicycling maps, and designing and conducting training programs for engineering, planning, and health professionals, educators and law enforcement personnel. The Program Manager will work closely with the staff of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NC DOT), Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation, and the NC DOT Transportation Mobility and Safety Branch, as well as transportation professionals from a broad range of national and state organizations. While the Bicycle and Pedestrian Program maintains a relatively small core staff, it draws on the wide range of skills and capabilities of the professionals working throughout ITRE on a project-by-project basis. Past examples of such collaborations have included other Public Transportation Group , Pupil Transportation Group, and Highway Systems and Safety Group members, as well as Center for Transportation and the Environment personnel. There are also opportunities for collaboration with NCSU faculty, staff, and students.
