The Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) is a public agency located in Southern California dedicated to maintaining world-class leadership in wastewater and water resource management. OCSD operates and maintains the third largest wastewater treatment facilities west of the Mississippi River. Under the general supervision of a licensed professional engineer, assists engineering staff from the design phase through the bidding process to develop cost estimates, preliminary design reports and job plans; evaluates design bids; and assists in obtaining permits. This is the journey level classification in the Engineering Associate series. Specifically, this person will prepare two dimensional civil/sanitary project plans, layouts, and designs using CADD; modify existing project plans using CADD; and perform a variety of design related civil or mechanical assignments. In addition, this person will finalize construction packages and assist with the coordination of bid documentation; and prepare three dimensional drawings using CADD software. Other duties will involve learning and applying the District’s Drafting Standards Guidelines and Engineering Design Guidelines. This position requires an education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by two years (60 semester units) of college level coursework in pre-engineering or engineering technician from an accredited college, university, or qualified trade school. This position also requires three years of increasingly responsible work experience preparing preliminary plans, designs, specifications, and estimates for wastewater treatment facilities, performing mathematical computations and applying the knowledge of drafting methods, techniques and equipment to the solution of standard engineering problems. Demonstrated fluency in AutoCAD software is important. The ability to use MS Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook is necessary. Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to build and maintain relationships with all levels of District staff are required.
