Director, Internal Audit (Corporate Analysis and Control) - Natick Global HQ
Position Summary
The Director, Corporate Analysis and Control will provide strong leadership and vision to the corporate audit function. He or she will promote high quality controls, financial reports and information systems and will lead audit teams to provide independent and objective assurance services that improve Boston Scientific operations. This position will be responsible for communicating the internal audit plans and results of reviews with business unit management, and region and division finance and controllership leaders. In addition, the Director and his or her team will serve as internal consultants, providing analysis of operational issues such as process re-engineering, external benchmarking and operational efficiencies.
The individual hired will be a broadly skilled finance and business executive who can lead and develop the audit function for several years and then contribute to the company’s financial management in another role, including in the absence of the Vice President, Corporate Analysis and Control this individual could provide the essential leadership to the group. Team leadership skills are essential and the Director, Corporate Analysis and Control will provide professional development, mentorship and support to the geographically dispersed team. He or she will be expected to travel to the company’s facilities around the U.S. and around the world. Ideal candidates will have strong leadership and communication skills and will be adept at presenting and interacting at the senior management level with business leaders across the company.

Major Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Corporate Analysis and Control organization, in partnership with the Vice President, Corporate Analysis and Control. Assist the Vice President in setting the direction and objectives for the organization, and proactively identify opportunities for Corporate Analysis and Control to add value to the Company. Ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures and maintain the highest ethical standards throughout the organization.
- Develop the CA&C Strategic Audit Plan, with the Vice President, Corporate Analysis and Control, and update the Strategic Audit Plan throughout the year based on regular communication with management and the results of audits performed. Assist the VP CA&C with preparation of regular senior leadership and board updates based on audit results and identification of risk themes.
- Coordinate the annual risk management approach to determine whether the organization’s network of risk management, control, and governance processes, as designed and represented by management, is adequate and functioning in a manner to ensure:
- Risks are appropriately identified and managed;
- Effective and efficient controls are in place and functioning;
- Company resources are adequately safeguarded and effectively used;
- Significant financial, managerial, and operating information is accurate, reliable, and timely;
- Reliable business systems and processes are in place; and
- Processes are in place to effectively monitor compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure audit teams conduct thorough and independent audits focused on evaluation of internal control design and effectiveness, accuracy and completeness of financial records, effectiveness and efficiency of operational controls and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Enable effective and efficient internal audit processes. Ensure that audit issues are well defined, root causes are identified, and recommendations for improved internal controls and processes are communicated appropriately and subsequent management actions are reported and tracked.
- Continuously monitor the internal and external environment and keep the Vice President, Corporate Analysis and Control and management team apprised of longer-term potential risk areas, e.g. legislative, regulatory, technological, etc.
- Proactively research emerging issues/techniques in the areas of enterprise risk management, audit methodology, business processes, regulatory compliance, etc. Communicate and provide training to the organization as required.
- Serve as an internal consultant, providing value adding analysis and study of operational activities to promote efficiencies and best practices.
- Supervise the work of Corporate Analysis and Control Managers/Sr. Managers. Ensure appropriate risk assessments, scope decisions, and audit procedures have been performed for each engagement, and review all audit findings and reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Communicate audit results to all relevant Corporate, Division and Region management and finance teams. Ensure clarity regarding audit results and that appropriate remediation action plans are being implemented.
- Establish and support a work environment of continuous improvementthat supports Boston Scientifics’ Quality Policy, Quality System and enhances Corporate Analysis and Control’s effectiveness in managing risk and advancing business process improvements within the Company. Champion the adoption of best practices within the organization.
- Promote a strong control environment where fraud or noncompliance is unacceptable and difficult to conceal.
- Collaborate with the finance team on Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance, accounting guidelines and other compliance activities.
- Coach direct reports in objective setting, regular communication and feedback, development activities and appropriate reward/recognition. Ensure all Corporate Analysis and Control employees create and implement meaningful development plans, and provide effective, timely performance reviews.
- Attract, recruit and develop talent and leadership capability within the Corporate Analysis and Control team. Ensure strong succession planning so that internal candidates are being developed to fill key positions within Corporate Analysis and Control and the Finance organization as a whole.
- Manage the Corporate Analysis and Control budget. Ensure complete, accurate, and timely reporting of expenses and work with the Vice President, Corporate Analysis and Control to efficiently allocate resources and maximize the cost performance of the organization.
- Maintain a high degree of interest in professional development. Attend relevant risk and audit training sessions and conferences and maintain ongoing professional credentials (e.g. CPA, CIA, etc.).
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
· 12+ years of finance experience including a combination of audit, accounting and/or finance management experience at a well regarded, multi-national, company that is subject to US public company regulations.
· Strong educational credentials, including an undergraduate degree in accounting.
· An MBA is a definite plus.
· A CPA with earlier experience in public accounting is required. A thorough understanding of financial audit principles, having successfully implemented those principles in a corporate environment. In depth knowledge of SOX compliance.
· Experience with complex, global manufacturing companies is required, either through public accounting audit assignments or direct hands on experience in industry, or both. Experience in the health sciences industry is desirable but not required.
· International experience, including overseas travel and work with complex, global manufacturing organizations is required.
· Demonstrated strong leadership skills. Fully engaged, self-starting, decisive and able to work comfortably with ambiguity, minimal direction and within highly matrixed environment.
· Possess a high energy level and strong work ethic with a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic environment that strives to exceed expectations. Demonstrated ability/experience in an environment of change and continuous improvement.
· Have excellent project management skills with the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities across the geographically dispersed team.
