OFFICE OF FINANCE ACCOUNTANT
The Accountant is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year end audit preparation. The Accountant will have contact with the Director of Finance/Controller which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal. He or she is to assist the Director of Finance/Controller in implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that university assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial and university policies and GAAP.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED: BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting. Technical Skills and Experience: Five to seven years experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area; Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -pace setting; Must have strong experience with Oracle, Microsoft Excel, and Word; Ten key by touch required; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required; Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required. Language and Mathematical Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints; Effective and persuasive presentation skills on controversial or complex topics to top management. PREFERRED: Master's preferred or CPA license; Experience with POISE is a plus; Five or more years related to higher education experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
