- This positions primary role is to provide rapid recovery of an Enterprise network, while receiving work direction from the NOC Shift Lead Engineer.
- Works to ensure that the site network, IDS/IPS and VPN devices and network/device management environment is reliable and that performance exceeds that of contracted service levels.
- In this position, you may work on portions of the network carrying classified information.
- Operates under the supervision of the NOC Operations Manager or designee.
- Troubleshoot outages as assigned by Operations Manager or Designee.
- Use Campus Manager or similar device management systems to determine actual impact of assigned outages.
- Update and resolve both Remedy tickets and Shift Log entries.
- Lead conference calls for assigned SRMs and outages.
- Perform escalation as required for assigned outages.
- Generate Incident report for Operations Manager review for assigned outages.
- Use RME and Campus Manager to perform daily tasks.
- Mentor more junior technicians/engineers.
- Act as escalation point for more junior technicians/engineers.
- Provide relief to more junior technicians/engineers for breaks, lunches, mentoring sessions and absences.
- Turn up and troubleshoot switch ports.
- Troubleshoot SNMP traps reported by Network Technicians.
- Find and disable Rogue Machines as directed by Remedy tickets assigned by the security group.
- Perform Switch/ IDS/IPS and VPN turn ups.
- Maintain network IDS/IPS and VPN device systems in good working order.
- Perform OS (IOS, CATOS, ScreenOS, W2K, Solaris, Linux) upgrades.
- Perform additional tasks directed by senior personnel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent experience in related field. Cisco CCNA required, CCNP and Juniper JNCIA-FWV a plus, others as required.
- 3-5 years experience that includes operational support, hands-on implementing and configuration of network devices such as servers, routers, hubs, switches, IDS/IPS, VPN UPS, desktop computers, and cabling in a large LAN/BAN/MAN/WAN environment.
- Knowledge of Cisco network products, Juniper Netscreen VPNs and Symantec network IDS products.
- Knowledge of trouble ticketing software (Remedy) and network monitoring solutions (Tivoli NetView, NetCool; CiscoWorks; Juniper GlobalPro and NetScreen Security Manager)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Previous experience working on DoD bases/sites, including previous military service highly desirable.
- Strong communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the networking process.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
