Senior Financial Analyst


Responsibilities
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for financial analysis and support for several Research and Development projects and functional areas. Reporting to the Senior Director R&D Finance, this position will serve as a contact for management within assigned areas of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS REQUIRED FOR JOB

· Assist in the analysis, reporting, and monitoring of budgets and forecasts within Research and Development.
· Track, analyze and report on spending trends for development projects and functional area spend.
· Assist in the timely issuance of monthly/quarterly financial report packages for operational managers and senior management.
· Review of Research and Development purchase orders, capital appropriation requisitions, and personnel requisitions to assure compliance with the corporate approval policy and verify budget funding availability.
· Responsible for monthly close activities including preparation of journal transactions, account reconciliations, and reports as required.
· Assist in developing information tools/management reporting for Research and Development activities.
· Special projects and analysis as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education
· Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance or a related business discipline.
· MBA from nationally accredited college or university preferred.
· Public accounting experience a plus.

Experience
· 5-7 years of private industry experience preferably in an operations oriented environment.
· 3-5 years in support of research and development operations, with project analysis experience preferred.
· Strong PC skills including MS Office Products. Experience using Hyperion and Oracle products is preferred but not required. Any relational databases experience a plus.

Complexity
Procedures, deliverables, and decision-making are defined by GAAP, company policies and procedures and government regulations. Ability to manage multiple and competing tasks across functional areas is essential. Attention to detail and facility with numerical calculations are essential.

Internal staff, manager, director and VP level contacts across multiple functions.

Mental/Physical Requirements
Fast paced office environment handling multiple demands. Must be able to exercise appropriate judgment as necessary. Requires a high level of initiative and independence. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Requires ability to use a personal computer for extended periods of time.

Additional Requirements
Work hours may include meetings schedule outside of normal working hours. Demands during peak times may require work hours outside of normal working hours. Occasional travel may be required.
