Assistant Controller– Bilingual Spanish

La Michoacana Meat Market is currently seeking an Assistant Controller who will report directly to the Director of Finance and will work closely with Senior Management to ensure the timeliness and accuracy of financial reports and will also manage all day-to-day financial activities for the company.

La Michoacana Meat Market was founded in February of 1986 in the city of Houston . This chain of Latin supermarkets was founded by a Mexican family with the idea of a Mexican company to serve all Hispanics. La Michoacana Meat Market has grown rapidly throughout the years. La Michoacana Meat Market has now more than 100 stores located in Houston, Dallas , San Antonio , Austin the Valley area.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for AR, AP, GL, fixed assets, sales tax, and intercompany.
  • Facilitate the implementation and maintenance of proper financial controls.
  • Manage the period end as well as the annual close process.
  • Prepare accurate and complete management reports on a weekly and periodic basis.
  • Prepare and maintain presentation for meetings of Senior Management.
  • Preparation of periodic financial statements.
  • Oversee the reconciliations of all Balance Sheet accounts.
  • Responsible for working closely across various functions to ensure full financial
    compliance.
  • Manage a dynamic team of 7.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience.
  • Minimum BS in accounting, CPA or CPA Candidate is a plus.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of Public Accounting experience required.

Skills

  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills.
  • Must have excellent knowledge in Microsoft Excel and MAS90.
  • Must have knowledge of proper internal controls; SOX knowledge a plus.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have proven supervisory experience.
  • Must be a team player and work across different functions.
  • Must have the capacity to work and deliver under tight deadlines and pressure.
  • Must be willing to work long hours as needed.
  • Must be Spanish and English bilingual.
  • Must be willing to travel a minimum of 10% of the time; mainly one day trips, with occasional night over stay to San Antonio, Valley, Oklahoma City and around Houston.
  • Knowledge of retail accounting a plus.
  • Start-up experience a plus.
