Position Summary: This position assists the physician in providing care to their patients in the office and serving as a resource for chemotherapy nurses and other staff who identify patients who need urgent care. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer and Director of Clinical Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

§ Assesses and examines patients.

§ Orders and interprets diagnostic lab and radiology.

§ Plans and orders treatments.

§ Writes history, physical, and orders for hospital admission.

§ Communicates and consults with physicians regarding patients.

§ Dictates notes for office visits letters for patients.

§ Reviews pathology and records of new patients. Obtains missing information if needed.

§ Identifies patients eligible for research trials in conjunction with MD and research staff.

§ Evaluates patients with problems via phone nurse or chemotherapy nurse.

§ Orders and interprets lab work for employees for safety monitoring.

§ Provides continuity of care when a physician is out of the office.

§ Interfaces with Medical Records, Front Desk, and Physicians and Nurses regarding patient’s charts, appointments and patient treatment. Also interfaces with area hospitals to report patient condition.

§ Respects the dignity and confidentiality of patients.

§ Maintains a good attendance record and report on time for work.

§ Maintains a professional attitude and appearance.

§ Complies with clinic safety policy and procedures.

§ Possesses good communication skills that lend to a team oriented work environment.

§ Attends staff meetings as scheduled.

§ Assists with training and orientation of new employees as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

Master’s degree and two years related experience; or bachelor’s degree and four years related experience; or seven to ten years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a certified Nurse Practitioner and/or RN license for the state of Tennessee. Certificate to prescribe is required.

Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent problem-solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within The West Clinic. Must be proficient in computer applications including EMR and e-mail. Additional hours may be required.
