Director, Product Management: Proofpoint, Inc.

Proofpoint is looking for an experienced Director of Product Management to manage our flagship products in one of the fastest growing segments of the security market. Proofpoint's comprehensive cloud enabled platform enables companies to stop spam, defend against viruses and network attacks, and prevent leaks of confidential or sensitive information. Powered by innovative, patented technologies, Proofpoint has a proven track record of rapid growth, providing enterprise-wide email security solutions for some of the largest companies in the world.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overall management and direction of the product management team, ongoing market research, work with the engineering team and our customers to define the requirements for a new product line. The individual must possess strong customer and partner relationship skills, business and technical savvy, and the ability to rally the company around these new initiatives. This position reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for staying on top of the dynamic enterprise security market, planning revenue by product, working with sales and product management to identify potential partners, coordinate integration efforts, and manage ongoing technical relationships. This position is part product management, part business development, part general manager. The individual must possess strong partner relationship skills, business and technical savvy, experience architecting solutions, and the ability to coordinate resources across a growing company.

Experience in entrepreneurial environments, with enterprise software products, and some engineering or technical background is strongly preferred.

The role will encompass the normal range of product management responsibilities, including:

o Forecasting product revenue by product line and deployment type based on market opportunity and sales capacity

o Owning and defining product requirements and vision, incorporating feedback from customers, and product management and engineering teams

o Establishing and owning relationships with external technology partners

o Working with engineering, QA, and doc teams to deliver the required product on schedule

o Supporting product marketing in the creation of new sales tools, including collateral, white papers, presentations, and web content.

o Supporting the sales organizations and channel partners to increase their effectiveness

Requirements:

o 10+ years of product management experience in enterprise software or on demand products or technical business development

o 8+ years of management experience

o A broad understanding of the marketplace and industry trends in enterprise software, security and content classification

o Experience in managing several enterprise software products through the entire lifecycle - from initial requirements gathering through product release and rollout

o Solid understanding of enterprise product deployment issues on hardware appliance platforms

o Ability to manage complex initiatives with limited supervision

o Engineering/computer science degree or proven technical background; MBA or equivalent preferred
