Store General Manager



Summary:

Coordinates all activities in the store. Responsible for hiring, orientation, development, and evaluations for store associates. Accountable and responsible for the financial performance of the store including, cost, revenue and bottom line.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

v Job Specific Standards

Ø Customer Service

§ Makes customers a priority over other tasks and takes action to satisfy customer needs

§ Uses supervisor/customer feedback to evaluate customer service and to initiate improvement strategies

§ Handles customers in a manner which promotes satisfaction and repeat business

Ø Financial Results

§ Manages processes such as inventory and sales to meet or exceed company goals while maintaining legal and regulatory compliance

§ Balances staffing to store volume to meet or exceed company goals while maintaining legal and regulatory compliance

§ Achieves financial results as measured by indicators such as:

§ Profitability growth from previous quarter

§ Current budget/actual comparison

§ Last cash management audit

§ Cost of goods budget/actual

§ Staffing costs budget/actual

§ P&L bottom line dollars and % margin

Ø Managership and Management

§ Plans store assignments to ensure all tasks are completed on time while avoiding overtime while allowing flexibility to accommodate priority changes

§ Develops and maintains a team environment in the store by motivating the team to produce quality results

§ Effectively conducts store meetings to ensure all associates know store and company goals, objectives and standards of practice

§ Delegates projects and responsibilities to assure their accomplishment and to develop the skills and capabilities of store associates

§ Demonstrates good judgment in all decision making and communication

§ Keeps the Regional Manager informed of results and issues of note and asks for help as needed

Ø Associate Development and Coaching

§ Hires, orients and develops new associates to be successful in their roles

§ Provides routine performance feedback to each associate more than once a week

§ Provides formal and informal training to associates at least monthly using both materials provided by the company as well as materials (s)he has found or developed

§ Collects and records written associate performance data at least every eight weeks on each associate

§ Holds a performance update conference with each associate at least twice a year in addition to the annual evaluation

§ Forms interval goals with the associate and coaches to accelerate successful accomplishment

§ Performs annual evaluation conference with each associate and submits evaluations to HR on or before the annual deadline

§ Utilizes the company’s performance improvement planning process to counsel associates whose performance is not up to standard after routine coaching and feedback.

§ Communicates with associates regarding career opportunities in the company and works with those interested in advancement to implement a development plan to accelerate success

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or minimum of two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

As required by the state, for example: Optician license in some states.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Manages 1 to 2 subordinate supervisors who assist with the supervision of a total of 5-10 associates in the Store. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also, oversees the supervision of 5-10 non-supervisory associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
