Chief of Police - The City of Dodge City, Kansas, population approximately 30,000, is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. This position reports to the City Manager and heads the City's Police Department composed of 50 sworn positions and 21 non-sworn positions, FY 2009 operating budget 4.7 Million. As a member of the City's Manager's management team, the Chief is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the work of the Police Department. Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required, plus at least 10 years progressively responsible experience which allows the candidate to demonstrate expertise in all facets of Police Administration. Master's Degree preferred but not required. Experience with union negotiations is an asset. Major departmental goals include a continued emphasis on the concepts and philosophy of Community Policing in a multi-cultural community, fostering a departmental atmosphere of team work and cooperation and developing plans to address community concerns pertaining to the Law Enforcement function. Beginning salary range is $79,000 to $90,000 DOQ. Require Kansas State Law Enforcement Certification within 12 months of employment.
