Description:
This is a full-time position working under the general supervision of the Director of Creative and Printing Services. The Offset Press Operator works closely with the Communications and Marketing Department as well as other areas of the college. He/she operates a plate engraver, digital platemaker with scanmaster color scanning station, offset printing press (one, two and four color), computerized docutech system, binding equipment and other equipment required to produce the college's publications.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operates paper cutter, collator, folding machine and computerized Docutech system. Print bulletins, brochures, booklets and other materials as requested.
- Examines work order to determine specifications such as quantity to be printed, production time, paper stock, colors and color sequences.
- Delivers printed materials to various locations on campus.
- Monitors feeding, printing and racking processes of presses to maintain specified operating levels and to detect malfunction, making adjustments as necessary.
- Repositions printing plates, adjusts pressure rolls, or otherwise adjust machines to improve print quality, using knobs, hand wheels, or hand tools to start and control printing machine.
- Selects and installs printing plates, rollers, feed guide gauges, screens, stencils, type dies and cylinders in machines according to specifications, using hand tools.
- Loads, positions and adjusts unprinted materials on holding fixtures or in equipment loading and feeding mechanism.
- Pours or spreads paint, ink, color compound and other materials into reservoirs, troughs, hoppers or color holders of printing units, making measurements and adjustments to control color and viscosity.
- Sets and adjusts speed, temperature, ink flow, and positions and pressure tolerances of equipment.
- Inspects and examines printed products for print clarity, color accuracy, conformance to specifications and eliminate external defects.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent .
- Three (3) years experience as an offset press operator or equivalent specialized training.
- Some experience with DPM Digital Platemaker and Scanmaster Color Scanning Station.
- Knowledge of occupational and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of offset printing procedures and equipment.
- Knowledge of computerized douctech system.
- Ability to operate offset printing and duplication machinery.
- Ability to requisition supplies and maintain a stockroom.
- Ability to print high quality material.
- Ability to operate machinery required for binding.
- Ability to perform light maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to instruct employees of lower classification.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with a diverse group (faculty, staff, students, and public).
- Must be responsible and dedicated to customer service satisfaction
- A background check is required for the successful candidate.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation and receipt of official high school.
Salary: $26,616.00 – Minimum
