JOB DESCRIPTION: Progressive, career growth oriented company with 100 years of innovation, service, and quality is searching for 2 Melting Supervisors to work in their Birmingham Foundry. The position is responsible to direct the work of hourly employees engaged in the production of molten metal from iron and scrap material, and the control of molten metal chemistries and temperatures. The company provides career growth and job stability as well as an excellent benefits package. Job duties include:

· Supervises the work of Melting Department hourly employees, including Cupola, Trough, Duck’s Nest and Ladle areas, to assure that work is done according to proscribed procedures and efficient, continuous operations are maintained.

· Monitors cupola conditions and emission system to assure that equipment is operating correctly, making adjustments as required in conjunction with the Melting Specialist.

· Assures that required material, equipment and labor is available, notifying Manager, Melting of any shortfalls. Visually inspects all incoming materials to assure they meet standards.

· Notifies Manager, Melting and Maintenance personnel immediately of any problems that can or will cause production shutdowns or delays and takes any immediate action possible to correct problems. Maintains close communication with Casting Department to coordinate operations and prevent delays.

· Assures that all plant and safety rules and policies are enforced and that violators are disciplined in a fair and consistent manner. Receives, evaluates and responds to first-step grievances as required, consulting with the Human Resources Director as necessary.

· Works with Continuous Improvement personnel to find, document and implement process improvements.

· Assures that hourly employees are properly trained and qualified; identifies employees’ training and development needs and assists in the implementation of training to meet these needs.

· Insures that all work performed in the Melting Department is done in a safe and efficient manner and the work area maintained in a neat and orderly condition.

· Evaluates the effectiveness of manpower utilization, working procedures, and cost control measures, and production rates and operating costs, and makes recommendations for improvement to the Manager, Melting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of relevant heavy industrial experience.. Some supervisory experience preferred but not required. Ability to plan and direct the hourly workforce and to identify variances in operating conditions and take corrective action.
  • The employee will be working in a heavy industrial environment with exposure to Foundry operations. The employee will be exposed most of the time to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles. The rest of the time will be spent in an office environment.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, Walking, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, Seeing, Hearing and Sitting.
