Lead Data Analyst - Patient Services (Medical)
UW Medicine Information Technology Services department is a shared services organization, which supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, UW School of Medicine, and UW Physicians Network. The IT Services organization is responsible for ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the mission of patient care, research and teaching.
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Provider Maintenance Group, this position provides general and technical support for the overall data integrity and data quality of the PUMA database, including PMG processes utilized to support the work processes and systems processes to maintain, administer and provide Provider/User Data Integrity to the clinical, financial and administrative systems utilized by the staff and faculty of UW Medicine.
The UW Medicine IT Services Data Analyst provides a key contact point for end users providing consultation, triage, analysis and resolution to issues related to provider/user data quality requests for the staff of UW Medicine. Provider data is used to identify UW Medicine patient care providers, such as physicians, PAs (physician assistants), CRNA's (certified registered nurse anesthetists), CNS (clinical nursing specialist), and a range of therapists. The Data Analyst assures that UW Medicine provider records contain correct externally provided information, such as NPI numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and state licensure. In addition, the Data Analyst assures that UW Medicine providers are correctly associated to online patient records, for clinical, administrative, compliance, and billing purposes. The Data Analyst also ensures that external provider data (eg, referring physicians)is correct.
The goal is to provide superior Provider/User Data Quality for UW Medicine. This position promotes the implementation of UW Medicine IT Services strategy focusing on standard technologies and providing the user community (including remote affiliates) with well-supported services and tools consistent with the standards and guidelines of UW Medicine. This position requires significant flexibility and adaptability to new and changing requirements, technologies, policies, processes and procedures within the UW Medicine environment.
The Data Analyst must work closely with UW Medicine end users and receives guidance and support to the Lead Data Analyst of the PMG team. This position provides intervention with clients of varying levels of expertise. Frequent interaction occurs with other IT Services teams in maintaining provider/user data quality and solving provider/user data quality problems across systems.
Duties & Responsibilities •Verify names and addresses of providers who are carbon copied on medical transcripts and other correspondence containing protected health information. •Create tickets in the UW Medicine IT Services USD help desk application in order to track issues and user requests. •In the ORCA (Clinical Information System) application, data analysts perform maintenance on provider names that appear in the document signature box when requested by a provider. •Responsible for researching, updating and administering accurate provider/user information in the PUMA (Enterprise Provider and User Master File) database/application. •Research rejected charges that result from incorrect or missing provider information. Make applicable changes to provider information in RegADT (Hospital Admitting and Registration), Puma and Mindscape applications. •Responsible for maintaining the Mindscape Pager support list for Harborview and UW Medical Centers. •Perform maintenance of duplicate combines in PUMA, ORCA and RegADT applications. •Process requests to add or update NPI (National Provider Identifier) and UPIN (Unique Physician Identification Number) to PUMA and RegADT. These identifiers are critical in the accurate submission of claims to outside payers, including Medicare and Medicaid. •Work closely with HMC and UWMC Patient Data Services (PDS) staff on a daily basis to research and correct provider addresses as identified through returned mail. •Actively work and communicate with key internal and external customers on a regular basis to promote consistent and efficient work processes. •Test and document modifications and enhancements to the PUMA interface application and work closely with the PUMA programmer. •Must be able to respond to urgent and high priority user requests based on matters of patient safety and protection of confidential health information that could result in penalties and fines to the University. |

| Requirements: |
High School graduation or equivalent AND two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience ORequivalent education/experience.
Language Skills •Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. •Strong written communications skills. |

•At least one year of experience adding or modifying data into varied and complex database systems. •Previous experience receiving and responding to customer requests and questions. •Previous experience working in data analysis and data quality. •Demonstrated knowledge and at least one year experience in identifying and resolving problems with data quality. •Demonstrated initiative, follow-up and the ability to prioritize effectively. •Demonstrated organizational skills. •Excellent interpersonal communications skills. •At least 1 year of experience in complex information systems environments. •Demonstrated knowledge and experience with data quality analysis and data structures. •Demonstrated experience utilizing Windows based Microsoft Office applications, such as Access, SQL, Excel and/or Word. •Demonstrated experience utilizing database tools and applications. •Demonstrated experience utilizing Web based applications and tools. •Demonstrated attention to detail. •Demonstrated experience working in a multitude of environments concurrently. •Proven customer service orientation with a history of delivering high quality products on time. •Preferred: Bachelors' degree or equivalent experience; preferably in information technology or related field.
