Police Chief

Marion. Pop. 7,450. Responsible for planning, organizing & directing Police Dept. activities, maintaining effective working relationships w/ law enfct. agencies, City depts. & public. Dept. consists of 29 full-time & 10 reserve personnel. Requires thorough knowledge of principles & practices of law enfct. admin., community policing, crime prevent. & use of technology in law enfct. setting. Requires ability to communicate effectively in writing & orally, effectvly. mnge. subord. personnel, implement City priorities, write grant applic., develop & mnge dept. budget & deal tactfully & firmly w/ public. Position reports to City Mgr. Requires 4 yr. degree in criminal justice or related field & extensive exper. in variety of managerial & supervisory law enfct. roles. Min. of 5 yrs. exper. in supervisory capacity or 3 yrs. exper. as police chief prefrd. Must possess a valid N.C. Drivers License & N.C. law enfct. certif. or abil. to obtain certif.. w/in specified time frame. Sal. negot. DOQ. Successful candidate must satisfactorily complete drug screening & extensive background check.
