Members of the Missile Defense National Systems Engineering Team (MDSET) develop the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Integration Strategy for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). This position supports the agency's Model and Simulation (M&S) Team which is chartered with executing all system engineering processes necessary to support for MDA/DES with additional emphasis on Integrated Theater / Regional threats and Early Intercepts.


Job Description:


Design and requirements engineer responsible for the development and documentation of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) Modeling & Simulation (M&S) objective simulation architecture appropriate to specified M&S Use Cases. Performs trades and participates in studies designed to help define, tailor, explore, and evaluate M&S architecture capabilities, and to help resolve programmatic/technical challenges affecting cost, schedule or performance. Supports the documentation of existing or new capabilities through the development of requirement packages that comprise the supporting analysis, definition, and architecture needed to document, allocate and trace BMD M&S System and Element level requirements. Participates in the development of system/component architecture and behavior analysis using a structured UML modeling approach. Coordinates trade, study, analysis results with stakeholders; schedules, presents or monitors issue resolution, product updates, and approval of design / requirements packages through engineering review / approval process. Position(s) can either be located in Huntsville, AL or Colorado Springs, CO.


Basic Qualifications:
Hands-on development/design/analysis experience with modeling and simulation tools and architecture development. Experience with system modeling and optimization techniques. Strong coordination, organization, teaming and communication abilities along with horizontal integration skills. Experience developing solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems, requiring ingenuity and innovation. Ability to develop, document, and maintain processes, methods, and tools.


Desired Qualifications:
Experience with a Missile Defense element such as Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), Patriot PAC-3, Airborne Laser (ABL), Sea-Based Missile Defense (SMD), X-Band Radar (XBR), Defense Support Program (DSP), Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), BM/C2/C or other DoD system-of system engineering activity is desired. Experience with a Unified Modeling Language (UML) (System Architect) and DOORS is required. Familiarity with BMDS Performance Assessment, Ground Test, and/or Sub-system integration is a plus.


Required Education: BS with MS preferred in Engineering or applicable Engineering Sciences, Quantitative Science, or computing field and typically more than 10 years experience in a system engineering classification.
