POSITION: Research Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This job puts you at the forefront of the moviemaking process. Almost every movie that gets released in theaters goes through a “screening” process, where the studio and/or the filmmakers must make critical decisions on how to change the movie and also uncover their target audience. It is the first major test in the motion picture research cycle.

This is a hands-on position on the “Screenings and Qualitative” team, whose operations include screenings, exit polls, focus groups, and other ad hoc projects. RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will help coordinate research operations for the Screenings and Qualitative team.

“Day one” operational duties include the following.

· Designing and laying out “paper and pencil” questionnaires

· Creating tab and banner plans

· Facilitating communications between the research team and the screenings staff, night coding team, analysts writing reports, outside vendors, etc.

· Proofing of research reports

· Strict adherence to deadlines with no loss of accuracy

In addition, you will be helping to implement process improvements, develop new business offerings, and undertake other ad hoc and ongoing projects as necessary.

Over time, there would be substantial growth potential toward increased (meta-level) analytical sophistication and/or client service within our group, in addition to possibilities spanning the organization.

Specific Skills

• Experience in social science research, preferably working with survey data, and including questionnaire design
• The highest comfort working with quantitative data
• Advanced MS Excel user and/or experience working with statistical packages (e.g. SPSS) or database software (e.g. MS Access) preferred, ideally through their programming interfaces (in addition to the GUIs)
• Experience should include hands-on work in the nitty gritty of data entry, coding, and processing (though these are not primary responsibilities of the open position)
• Understanding of basic statistical methods and concepts
• Very comfortable learning new software, and already possessing strong abilities in standard applications such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• 1-2 years experience at a market research supplier (preferably)
• Elegant visual aesthetic a plus
• Desire to work in Los Angeles in this side of the movie business
