Senior Database Administrator - SQL Server

This position requires an experienced, highly motivated SQL Database Administrator with a minimum of five years experience in architecting, optimizing, and maintaining SQL Server databases. This individual will also participate in IT projects from inception of the project up and through the daily maintenance phase of a project. This individual will be required to provide input into new and existing projects relative to MS SQL Server, both from a technical perspective as well as from a business perspective.

The position not only requires expertise in SQL Server administration, but the candidate must also possess strong soft skills required to be a successful team member. Examples of these soft skills include: verbal and written communication at the level appropriate for the audience, time management, the ability to work with others in a team environment, and management of the project milestones if acting as a project lead.

Responsibilities:

· Lead the architecture, implementation and support of client specific implementations of SQL Server databases

· Capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, troubleshooting, and performance tuning of databases and related applications.

· Provide thought leadership and database architecture and design expertise as part of development project teams

· Perform logical and physical design of highly available and scalable databases for optimal overall performance

· Provide leadership of database strategies including high availability, backup and recovery, and SQL best practices

· Create technical documentation and presentations

· Work closely with the multiple constituents including development, customer solutions, production support, as well as network, security, and systems administrators to optimize the database and related components

· Work with application engineers during new program architecture and design phases

· Administer, maintain, develop and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of all SQL Server databases working with the Security team

· Implement and monitor system administration processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective utilization of systems and disk space, as well as data normalization and optimization of development, testing, and production environments

Requirements:

· Expertise in designing and implementing database architectures in a high availability environment

· Expertise in managing mission-critical 24x7x365 databases

· Expertise in identifying and resolving performance and scalability bottlenecks

· Experienced in developing and implementing database capacity plans

· Experienced in performing effective code reviews when necessary

· Minimum of 5 years experience with SQL Server 2000/2005

· Position requires on-call support including planned and unplanned response to a 24x7 environment

· Excellent communication skills consulting with stakeholders from various backgrounds

· Strong core competencies in the area of written and verbal communication, analysis, and logic

· Flexibility, integrity, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to client satisfaction

Preferred Requirements:

· Experience in Rapid or Agile development environment helpful

· Oracle experience helpful

· EMC Clarion SAN experience helpful

· J2EE and/or .Net application experience helpful
