Job Description:
Nurse Practitioner The Nurse Practioner is responsible for providing medical services for individuals who reside at San Angelo State School . This care is provided under the supervision of the medical director and is consistent with the policies and guidelines of DADS and San Angelo State School . The care conforms to community standards for high-quality medical care within the available local resources. The NP reports administratively to the Medical Director. Performs highly advanced (senior-level) clinical nursing work. Work involves assessing, planning, and providing comprehensive patient care independently or in collaboration with health care professionals. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment

Essential Job Functions:
Provides specialized consultation, training, and technical assistance to agency staff, care recipients, provider agencies, and the medical community. Plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care consistent with medical care prescribed by a physician. Initiates or modifies medical treatment when and to the extent authorized by the treating physician. Creates and maintains accurate records, reports, and legal documents. Manages primary acute or chronic care in collaboration with health team members. Identifies problems and makes suggestions for change to facilitate continuity of patient care, meeting patient needs and the mission of a health care facility. Evaluates nursing services through the analysis of statistical studies and performance evaluation reports. Develops in-service training and educational programs. Develops and participates in quality assurance programs. Reviews medical records and patient assessments to determine compliance with policies and procedures, correctness of assessment, or quality of service. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
1. Knowledge of nursing techniques, methods and procedures in the field of family, adult and advanced practice nursing. 2. The ability to examine, diagnose, and treat physical disorders. 3. The ability to interpret laboratory analyses. 4. Knowledge of the principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of case histories and individualized care and treatment plans. 5. Ability to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities. 6. Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely in both written and oral communications. 7. Ability to prepare and maintain medical records. 8. Ability to work productively with professionals and para-professionals as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team. 9. Ability to work independently and be flexible in carrying out assigned responsibilities.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must be registered as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or in a party state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Must be approved by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas to practice as an advanced practice nurse.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Experience in nursing work. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a master’s degree in nursing or a related field is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

Additional Information:

If selected for employment, any applicant that has lived outside of Texas within the two years prior to applying is subject to an FBI fingerprint check. Males between the ages of 18 - 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
