Director level Assistant Controller role with a Large Public Company

Reporting to the VP Finance/Corporate Controller, this position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of world-wide accounting by providing technical expertise, business sense, leadership, and a strong desire to improve processes and controls. The candidate must be a leader, have experience in managing large groups, be detail oriented, have strong organization and communication skills, and be very hands-on. The position requires matrix management capabilities to communicate with and educate finance and non-finance personnel on financial policies, reporting requirements and business trends and opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Manage the world-wide monthly and quarterly close process including financial statement (balance sheet, income statement and cash flows) review with corporate and international locations, and business groups to ensure integrity of the financial statements.

- Responsible for the world-wide implementation of new accounting standards including ensuring the accounting, processes, and controls are accurate, effective and efficient.

- Responsible for providing accounting advice to world-wide finance personnel as well as senior management for all areas including but not limited to software revenue recognition (SOP 97-2), cost accounting, and capitalization vs. expensing.

- Support the VP/Controller with the preparation of quarterly audit committee presentations and other audit committee related reports such as fees paid to external auditors.

- Manage the accounting, policies and processes related to certain corporate accounting owned areas including stock-based compensation (SFAS 123R and IFRS 2), goodwill, intangibles, impairments, restructurings, and cash flow statements and forecasting. Manage the general ledger accounting and consolidation processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, closing, statements, analysis and schedules. Oversee intra-company and inter-company accounting and consolidation.

- The position is also the primary contact for external auditors, E&Y, and coordinates planning and execution of quarterly and annual audits.

- Responsible for merger and acquisition accounting, and coordinating with the functional organizations with respect to merger integration.

- Assist with Company’s initiative for Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance by maintaining required documentation for owned areas and coordinating the testing of those areas.

- Assist with the preparation of all financial SEC filings including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, and other external and internal reports including financial press releases.

- Proactively monitor current FASB and SEC activities and evaluate the impact of adopting new accounting standards.

- Develop and maintain working relationships across Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, and other organizations.

- Effectively communicating with all levels of internal management, third party service providers, external auditors and the Audit Committee.

- Support the VP/Controller with various analyses and ad hoc projects including investigations.

Education, Experience & Skills Required:

- Unquestionable ethics and integrity.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA is required. MBA is a plus.
- At least 12 years accounting and management experience including previous experience as in a corporate controllership function, preferably in the high technology industry, and at least 8 years of Big 4 experience.
- Recognized as technical expert related to GAAP and reporting including SEC reporting, stock option accounting, mergers and acquisitions, software revenue recognition, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. Ability to leads complex projects which require influence and implementation across business groups and functions.
- Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, high energy, initiative and creativity. Must have a proven ability to manage significant initiatives across organizations and across geographies. Must be a strong manager with proven ability to develop and motivate staff.
- Experience with Oracle ERP environment, Hyperion and Business Objects is a plus.
- Attention to detail, organized and thorough with desire for continuous
improvement.
- Must be a "self-starter" with a can-do attitude and a serious desire to have a positive impact on our company.
