-Graduate from a Registered Professional Nursing Program; Maintains competency in professional nursing practices; Assumes responsibility for own self-development & for keeping current with advances in nursing knowledge & techniques; Assumes responsibility for maintaining current knowledge related to the age & development of the patient population in which they work.

-Current license to practice Registered Professional Nursing in NYS.

-GFH certification in selected areas of practice for which the nurse is responsible.

-BLS certification.

-Ability to assume leadership role in nursing practice; To organize work, to delegate effectively & to direct & oversee the work of practical nurses, nursing aides & unit secretaries; To recognize patient care problems & to react appropriately in patient care emergencies; To communicate effectively, verbally & in writing with other nursing personnel, patients & physicians; To complete basic math calculations.

-The RN is accountable for management & delivery of patient care to assigned patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team & within the scope of practice delineated in the NYS Nurse Practice Act. Provides direct patient care, delegates/assigns responsibility as appropriate to others and serves as leader of the interdisciplinary team in collaboration with & under the direction of the attending physician. Focuses on completion of the nursing process including patient/family education & discharge planning. Understands & acts appropriately to ensure optimum use of all resources.
