Core Responsibilities
The Deputy Director of Individual Giving is responsible for leading and overseeing critical activities associated with the continued growth and diversification of BELL ’s philanthropic revenue streams in all BELL regions. Specifically, this role is charged with building an individual giving program and growing the program to generate consistently renewable revenues to help fund the organization’s core operations and capacity-building activities. The position responsibilities include developing strong systems for research, communication, solicitation, and progress reporting; maintaining strong relationships with funders; researching and pursuing prospects; conducting regular appeals to individuals; and developing and executing fundraising events in all BELL regions. The Deputy Director is responsible for a specific revenue goal on an annual basis. Specific responsibilities include:
· Lead development and implementation of an individual and major gift strategy. · Identify, research and investigate new opportunities for funding from a wide variety of individual sources. · Effectively develop and maintain strong positive relationships with key investors. · Develop and maintain donor cultivation activities, including volunteer engagement programs. · Manage an annual giving campaign and regular appeals to high-net-worth individuals. · Oversee the planning and implementation of major fundraising events and develop a plan for new events across all BELL regions over time. · Support fundraising activities from foundations, corporations, and government sources as appropriate. · Support the development and management of Regional Councils. · Perform other duties as assigned.
Background and Experience
· Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree or higher preferred; 5+ years of successful fundraising experience. · Extensive knowledge of potential funding streams with specific experience with individual giving. · Strong interpersonal skills. · A self-starter, self-manager and strong leader who can manage through challenges confidently and remain flexible in an environment of changing priorities while all the time maintaining a tenacious commitment to exceeding goals. · Strong written and verbal communication skills required, including comfort with public speaking and presentations. · Strong attention to detail, systems development, and organizational management. · Comfort with Microsoft Office suite, Internet and Salesforce.com. · Passion for BELL ’s mission to enhance the academic performance, self-esteem and life opportunities of elementary school children in low-income communities.
Location
The preference is for this position to be located in Boston , with regular travel required (up to 20-30%). Consideration will be give to highly-qualified applicants in New York City .
