REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess a solid understanding of engineering principles and critical details related to heat transfer and both passive and active cooling of electronics and laser transmitters.
- Design, test and implement thermal solutions for laser transmitters and power supplies
- Perform thermal simulations for components and integrated assemblies. Analyze results and determine design modifications to achieve desired thermal performance.
- Understand engineering principles related to thermoelectric coolers, liquid heat exchanger and passive cooling by convection and conduction.
- Perform material and design qualification testing to verify performance to specifications.
- Select components, materials and assembly techniques to meet thermal requirements.
- Communicate with vendors regarding component parts and production standards.
- Design to meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost targets.
- Document design configuration, principles of operation, and application guidelines.
- Develop and implement test plans and procedures for verification testing and document results.
- Act as the lead technical resource on new thermal concept designs. Assist in the identification and purchase of thermal modeling and analysis tools.
- Sustain the product through production including ECN/ECO and engineering support to Operations.
- Provide technical advice within field of expertise to other organization personnel as may be requested. Evaluate current processes and procedures, recommending and implementing changes where indicated and approved.
- Assist in evaluating outside vendors prior to issuance of production order, ensuring their technology, capacity and quality control meet the standards of the organization.
- Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering – advanced degree preferred, with 5-10 years of direct experience with thermal modeling, analysis and design.
- Strong oral and written skills and effective communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Good problem solving and communication skills.
- Proficient with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and 3D Solid Modeling tools such as COSMOS and SolidWorks.
- Preference given to applicants with working experience in laser/optics industry.
