TIAA-CREF is seeking a Managing Director, Credit Risk-Commercial Mortgages & Real Estate in either our Charlotte, NC or New York office. RESPONSIBILITIES:
As part of our Risk Management group, responsibilities will include all or part of the following depending on your proficiency level and experience:
- Risk Management content expert for Commercial Mortgages and Real Estate sectors.
- Manage all aspects of related portfolio risk, including deal specific debt and equity investment evaluation as well as portfolio credit risk identification, risk measurement, and aggregation of exposures.
- Participate in underwriting and credit committees.
- Work closely with portfolio managers and research analysts to understand risks, set risk parameters, and ensure compliance within risk parameters. This includes establishing and updating credit policies and criteria for internal credit ratings.
- Work with quantitative analytics professionals to define sector specific methodologies for risk measurement and define inputs into quantitative risk models.
Qualifications REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 10+ years of business experience.
- Possess a depth of experience in credit risk, market risk, or similar role in a global bank, investment bank, or global insurance company. (Will consider similar experience from professionals in investment management, private equity, or rating agencies).
- Solid understanding of credit risk management best practices in financial institutions. Familiarity with processes and procedures for optimal credit risk review and surveillance.
- Experience with products, including B notes, mezzanine debt, and CMBS.
- Knowledge and/or ability to quickly grasp the conceptual underpinnings of quantitative credit models. Experience with Moody's Commercial Mortgage Metrics is a plus.
- B.A. / B.S. degree required - MBA or CFA strongly preferred, formal credit training a plus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Willingness to travel.
