PURPOSE AND MISSION :
The Database Administrator is responsible for the design of complex databases. This position assures optimal functioning of applications, databases and development tools, as required by the customer and the business. This individual is responsible for development of database security, data access methods, as well as performance monitoring, application tuning, backups and disaster recovery plans. This Engineer will influence application development design in support of business process re-engineering. This Engineer will work collaboratively with multiple development teams to assure the interface of the new database(s) with their applications. This Engineer will also be responsible for identifying tools/methodologies to initially populate new database(s) from legacy systems. This is a highly technical specialized position.
- Serve as technical point-person implement project objectives, review and clarify requirements and performance of database functionality.
- Recommend, review and approve the design of logical and physical data models and file structures
- Facilitate technical database design meetings and document the outcomes
- Be a part of the full product development lifecycle of software
- Perform capacity planning producing
- Develop and analyze benchmarking plans
- Develop strategies for database security and performance monitoring.
- Provide Data Base Administrator support to application developers, technical support staff, and business area professionals throughout the full application development life cycle.
- Take ownership of problems/tasks/issues and work them through completion.
- Perform data base programming activities
- Ensure the highest level of support by vendors for databases and applications by keeping pace with mandatory software updates, security needs and industry trends
- Responsible for technical aspects that affect data integrity
- Support critical business activities including maintaining overall responsibility for the proper operation of databases and data relationships
- Work with the team structure and help improve the various processes
- Manage data base backups and execute disaster recovery plans for the company
- Develop strategies for database tuning and optimization.
- Optimize application development software and improve efficiency in production databases
- Develop department standards and procedures that use industry best practices and that meet all new and emerging legislative change.
- Provide guidance to Data Base Administrators by coordinating their efforts to support business applications
- On-call “24X7” to support production database issues.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 8+ plus years of progressive database design and implementation experience across multiple software platforms.
- 6+ years experience with database tools and languages required (query language; Extraction Transformation & Loading (ETL); Business Intelligent Tools (BI); Data Transformation Services (DTS); SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS); Monitoring tools)
- 3+ years of project management and business solution delivery involving medium to large-size enterprise project implementations.
- Requires experience with highly technical database implementations involving relational data base technologies, software development tools, application operating systems, data access methods, graphical user interfaces, collaboration tools and data work flow engines
- Experience in graphical user interface design, design of business rules, and design of database objects, and data storage structures
- Knowledge of data modeling and system prototyping using structured analysis and design methodologies required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems Technology or equivalent experience
- Database Administrator certification (MCDBA) preferred
