Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro, Inc., the world's largest publisher of adventure games, including Magic: The Gathering® Trading Card Game and Dungeons & Dragons® Roleplaying Games have an exciting opportunity for a Game Designer to join our team.

Note –there is no relocation assistance for this position.


POSITION PURPOSE:

The Game Designer will lead and participate on teams to create game play content, focusing on trading card games such as Magic: the Gathering, Duelmasters, and others, but also including digital games and other game categories. The individual will be responsible for brainstorming new product concepts and ensuring the quality of existing game content. The position requires a mix of creativity, analytical ability, project management skills, and knowledge of the game design field.

JOB DUTIES

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

  • Design game play content for trading card games.
  • Create other game content including new product concepts, character and world development, unit/stats balance, tournament structures, and other content as needed.
  • Lead R&D game design teams.
  • Overcome obstacles and manage processes to move new products through the development cycle.
  • Playtest experimental Magic sets and provide feedback on future metagame environments.
  • Create and contribute to internal game development databases and wikis.
  • Represent R&D as an expert on gaming industry trends, technical aspects of game design, and gaming consumer needs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of competitors’ products.
  • Occasionally travel to trade shows and consumer events.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Deep love and knowledge of games. Ability to understand complex game systems.

· Exceptional creativity, analytical ability, and intellectual vigor.

· The ability to advocate opinions within teams while building consensus.

· The ability to champion a project and move it forward through the development cycle in the face of difficulties.

· Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn backlist of Magic: the Gathering, Duelmasters, and other trading card games.

· Ability to lead teams of 3-6 and confidently communicate with others in the game industry.

· Competence with office software, commercial database and wiki software, online games, and internet forums.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Four year college degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Multiple published game designs. Although they need not be trading card games, they should be commercially released games. This is not an entry-level position.
  • Experience with product development processes and work flows
