| | |  |  | Laboratory Assistant - Cytology Seattle, WA Job Description : POSITION SUMMARY: You will be responsible for assisting the Cytotechnologists by preparing work area, maintaining equipment, maintaining supply inventory, receiving and tracking specimens, preparing specimens and entering results, answering phones and performing other general lab duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: · Log all specimens received in Cytology (GYN & non GYN) into the computer via CRT. · Receive, number, stain, coverslip, label and match GYN specimens. Enter the GYN results and check final GYN reports as assigned. · File completed GYN requisitions for storage. · Prepare non – GYN specimens for microscopic examination according to written procedures and the guidance of the Cytology Supervisor. Confer with the supervisor or team leader on any doubtful situation. · Answer the phone and take messages relative to work performed. As instructed, will only give out final results to authorized individuals. · Maintain reagent and supply inventory and order materials and reagents. Fill outside client supply orders. · At the end of each day, place all soiled glassware in proper containers and assure that sufficient supplies, reagents, etc. are on hand for continued shift coverage. Disinfect the bench area as required. In addition to cleaning bench are, will clean on a periodic basis refrigerators, freezers, hoods and centrifuges. · Maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times. Attend all safety training classes and conform to company safety guidelines and requirements. · Conform to established and new procedures and policies as instituted by the company. · Remain flexible with regards to work schedule as staffing requirements dictate. Job Requirements : REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent. Some college science and/ or recent laboratory experience preferred. Able to work under pressure, adapt to changes, able to communicate effectively and accurately both written and verbally , work in a team environment. Requires high degree of honesty and a sense of responsibility regarding medical ethics. HOURS: Monday - Friday 10:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. |
