Principal Software Design Engineer / Software Architect

BSCS or equivalent a must/​MSCS a plus - with at least 7+​ years experience in the managerial position in complex software designs.

Job Title: Principal Software Design Engineer / Software Architect

This position plays a key role on the Development team. You will have ownership of and responsibility for creation, design and debugging / testing of the server based software for company’s products. This role requires managerial skills, customer focus, a deep understanding of the product, and an outstanding level of technical proficiency.

Basic Functions Of The Job:

Develop complex software designs. Verify complex designs to ensure conformance with specifications and customer requirements. Develop software requirements, cost estimates and proposals. Evaluate operational systems and recommend software design modifications to eliminate malfunctions. Recommend changes to software sub-systems to ensure proper functioning. Assist management in identifying potential new internal or external business. Serve as group leader and mentor.

The primary responsibilities of the candidate will be:

1. Allocate requirements to software, develop software requirements, evaluate the impact of requirements changes, oversee requirements development and requirements management, use and champion industry requirements best practices, and interact heavily with customers regarding requirements.
2. Develop software architecture, software design and associated documentation or lead others in these tasks applying emerging design technologies for improved productivity.
3. Analyze and prepare documentation for complex software designs in accordance with established software development processes and procedures. Run tests, evaluate results, debug defects, or lead others in these tasks. Participate in project planning verification and validation activities focusing on defect discovery, defect avoidance and applying emerging test technologies for improved productivity.
4. Verify complex software designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements.
5. Code, unit test and integrate complex software designs.
6. Conduct activities concerned with installation and operational test of complex software engineering designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements. Develop special test methods or fixtures to support developmental testing. Estimate software effort and schedules.
7. Evaluate and analyze operational systems and recommend software design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunction or changes in system requirements.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Advanced SQL code-writing experience in both Oracle and SQL Server
• Deep knowledge of a procedural language (Java, C#)
• Business process modeling skills
• Data modeling skills
• Experience writing functional and technical specifications
• Experience writing and maintaining a large software product

Desired Skills:

Experience integrating with databases and GIS, or related field

Experience with server-side Java

Experience with .Net programming

AutoCAD ARX programming.

Experience with data compression and Web services.
