JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Health Care Administrator in the Medical Service Corps, you’ll use oversight skills to promote excellence and efficiency. This could involve anything from managing delivery systems to implementing training programs, in high-profile settings or those more remote. Responsibilities may include:

  • Hold management positions in medical and dental treatment facilities, as well as operational units worldwide
  • Serve at some of the top Navy Medical facilities in Bethesda, MD; Portsmouth, VA; San Diego, CA; or at overseas locations from Spain to Italy, Hawaii to Japan
  • Act as steward over funds earmarked for Sailors and Marines or for their families back home
  • Head up third-world medical centers for families devastated by famine or conflict
  • Conduct research to determine and incorporate best practices at the forefront of global health care

There are opportunities for Health Care Administrators in the Navy to specialize in one or more of the following areas:

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify for an Active Duty Health Care Administration position in the Navy Medical Service Corps, you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or a foreign citizen currently practicing in the U.S. (contact a Navy Officer Recruiter for details)
  • Have one of the following:
    1. A master’s degree with a major in health care, hospital or health services administration (MHA). MHAs must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME)
    2. A master’s degree in business administration (MBA) with a concentration in Health Care Administration. MBAs must be accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
    3. A master’s degree in public health accredited by CEPH in Public Health (not Community Health)
  • Be willing to serve a minimum of three years of Active Duty
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 42
  • Be in good physical condition and pass a full medical examination
