The consultant will assists in the development, specification and communication of the technology architecture plans, the infrastructure components required to support it and in the integration of corporate, distributed and/or client server business area architectures.

The consultant will be a senior technical lead and principal designer for application development or package selection and implementation efforts and provide comprehensive consultation to business units and IT management and staff at the highest technical level on all phases of application programming and process implementation for diverse development platforms, computing environments (e.g. host based, distributed systems, client server, software, hardware, technologies and tools, etc.). The consultant will be responsible for translating functional specifications into application design specifications, including but not limited to the creation of application architectures, hardware and software configuration specifications, relational database schemas, and component/class specifications. Interact closely with the Business Systems Analysts, the client user community, and IT management and staff to identify technical solutions, or a combination of available alternatives. Additionally, the consultant will coordinate and facilitate application design sessions with development staff and review all technical aspects of a software implementation effort, including the monitoring of technical deliverables for consistency and quality.

The incumbent will participate in system architecture studies of new and existing IT systems to permit development of integrated corporate, distributed and client server business systems, which operate at low cost levels. He/she will recommend the appropriate computer platform, workstations and communication linkage required to support specific related business processes and information flows. The consultant will perform analysis and recommendation of new or different technologies that will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals; document clearly and concisely architecture, analysis and design documentation in a highly professional standardized format; and provide technical support to client and IT management to ensure the development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures and SDLC methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with an advanced degree preferred and at least two, typically four or more years experience in information systems architecture methodologies, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Candidates must have experience, or be familiar with creating information models, use cases, technical architecture diagrams, and/or system configuration specifications.
• Experience in commercial software package installations and third party reporting tools is a plus.
• Knowledge of the pharmaceutical research and development processes and FDA regulations for validated computer systems is nice to have.
• Experience with MS Visio, Oracle and .net are required.
• Exposure to portal technologies is a plus.
• Platform of choice are Unix for Database Servers, Unix/Windows for Application Servers.
• At least eight, typically ten or more years of solid, diverse work experience in IT with a minimum of six years experience in application development using structured methodologies, or its equivalent in education and work experience (total combined experience 8 -12 years).
• Requires in-depth knowledge of systems development life cycle, client area’s functions and systems, and technological alternatives in application design and development.
• Must be competent to work at the highest level of all phases of system modeling and implementation.
• Requires good communication skills, analytical ability, leadership skills, judgment and the ability to work effectively with client and IT management and staff.
