Robert Dwek, London, United Kingdom dwek@journalist.co.uk Cell: 07734 349490 Home: (020) 7407 4962 Overview Experienced business journalist and editor with specialism in marketing and new communications technology. I have covered the marketing industry since 1990, charting its rapid evolution from glossy, big budget ad campaigns to today's increasingly subtle, scientific and measurable techniques. Marketing in the new millenium employs a plethora of new media, new technologies, and new sales and distribution channels. As a profession, marketing has been transformed from yesteryear's Cinderella - overlooked by senior management - to today's belle of the ball: it now sits at the heart of corporate life. My articles over the years have been equally focused on the macro and micro levels of marketing, encompassing everything from list broking litigation to "re-branding" the Royal Family. I began writing about the Internet in 1996 and have increasingly focused on new media, the digital revolution and other new technology issues. I have a particular interest in customer service, customer relationship management and the way information-rich societies are creating a shift in power from those doing the selling to those doing the buying: broadly speaking, from corporations to consumers. I have first-rate writing, editing and commissioning skills. I am good at managing and motivating people, spotting commercial opportunities and bringing projects in on time and on budget. Current & Recent Employment 2003-Present: Columnist, writing about online marketing Marketing Week, London February 2000 - 2003: Editor, E-volve I joined Marketing Week as the editor of E-volve, a magazine-within-a-magazine concept dedicated to the Internet and new media. I relaunched E-volve - using the tag line: "Digital insights for multichannel marketers" - increased its frequency and extended its coverage to include everything from online advertising to content management, e-billing and e-mail marketing; from interactive TV to video on demand, text messaging and a host of other new technologies. My main challenge at E-volve, which I continue to edit, has been to present often arcane technology-related issues in plain English for a non-technical audience. To this end, I increased the use of case studies, profiles, opinion pieces, news analyses and special reports. I also expanded E-volve's international coverage, with a particular emphasis on developments in the US. The role has required public speaking at conferences, seminars and on television. It has also involved judging the Yell.com Awards for two years running, as well as editing Awards supplements and sponsored special reports. This last has required close liaison with the advertising and business development departments within Marketing Week. E-volve received the Centaur Communications Award for Best Editorial Spin-off in January 2001. Marketing Week January 2002 - November 2002: Associate Editor This senior role, to which I was promoted at the start of 2002, required news, analysis, feature, editing and column-writing input on a wide range of companies, industries and issues - including the Internet, telecoms, technology and electronic games.
