Experience

  • Nuclear Power Plant Operator

Operated, inspected, and performed minor maintenance of all auxiliary balance-of-plant and designed safety related equipment/systems.

Performed electrical switching and protective tagging on balance-of-plant systems and designated safety-related equipment.

Performed acceptance and surveillance testing on safety-related equipment as required by Nuclear Licensing Technical Specifications.

Ensured safe operation and verbatim compliance with procedures during all electrical plant and steam plant manipulations on a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant.

Coordinated and supervised the actions of a 10 person watch team during normal and emergency plant operations.

Operated a Windows NT based computer control system (DCS) that simulates the operation of a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plant to enhance the training of staff and student operators.

  • Electrical Startup Engineer, Fore River Station, Weymouth, MA

Commissioned electrical auxiliary equipment associated with Mitsubishi 501G Combustion Turbines, a 250MW steam turbine, and balance of plant equipment.

Verified the installation, wiring, and programming of electrical switchgear, motor control centers, DCS control circuits, and GE Mulilin Motor Management Relays.

Corrected plant prints, diagrams, and plant operating procedures for turnover to client. (As-Builts)

Supervised electricians to perform testing and inspections on medium and low voltage electrical equipment for initial energization and DCS control.

  • Mechanical/Electrical Startup Engineer, Red Oak Power Plant, Sayreville, NJ

Performed commissioning activities for first fire, initial synchronization, and performance/reliability testing of Siemens Westinghouse 501F Gas Turbines and a Toshiba Steam Turbine.

Developed procedures, supervised, and directed craft personnel to accomplish commissioning activities, such as chemical cleaning on HRSG’s and Condensate/Boiler Feed Systems, cooling water flushes, and steam blows.

  • Technical Writer

Developed operating and maintenance procedures for equipment and systems in a combined cycle power plant.

Organized and identified discrepancies with vendor equipment technical manuals and developed an action list to get discrepancies corrected.

  • Supervisor / Technician

Supervised and planned corrective and preventative maintenance tasks of a 15 member work center through rigorous ship’s upkeep and underway periods, maintaining the electrical system in the highest degree of readiness.

Performed extensive troubleshooting and repair of vital electrical systems associated with a nuclear reactor plant and ships electrical power distribution systems.

Developed work procedures and sequencing procedures for more complex maintenance items that affected multiple plant systems.

Documented all maintenance activities and kept records of all electrical equipment test results.

  • Training

Managed the qualifications of officer and enlisted students in the theory, construction, operation, and maintenance of complex steam propulsion, electrical, and reactor plant systems in a hands-on environment.

Coordinated scheduling of student qualifications, ensuring all qualification requirements were completed in the correct order and within time requirements.
